programme : Julian Wilson remporte le Quik Pro!
Ericeira is one of the jewels of European surfing. Benefitting from a unique maritime outlook on the Atlantic Coast, Ericeira and its surroundings, abound with world-class surf spots that now form part of the World Surf Reserve.
MAIN SITE: RIBEIRA D'ILHAS
One of the most famous and magical of them is the beach at Ribeira d'Ilhas, the principal site for the Quiksilver Pro Portugal. The contest structure will be built at the foot of the rocks in this naturally preserved arena and will be in harmony with nature.
If the famous right at Ribeira d'Ilhas, a wave very similar to Bells Beach (Australia) does not work as well as hoped, the Quiksilver Pro Portugal contest director, Jose Gregorio – pioneer of Portuguese professional surfing – will be able to move the event to neighbouring spots thanks to the contest being mobile.
Locations in detail with the contest director:
This famous point break is made up of a section perfect for outside manoeuvres, followed by a more critical inside section close to the rocks and the public, where the surfers can set up big turns.
Consistent – between 2 and 12 feet – and powerful, the wave is excellent particularly on a west swell.
Situated south of Ribeira d'Ilhas, Reef offers right-hand barrels at 2-6ft on a north swell. This spot is best at mid-tide.
A hollow left on a south swell. Situated close to Reef, south of Ribeira d'Ilhas, this spot can hold an 8ft swell and works perfectly at mid-tide and high tide.
Foz do Lizandro and San Juliao:
These are excellent beach breaks south of Ericeira, 5 minutes from Ribeira d'Ilhas. These spots, thanks to good sand banks, will provide the best alternative to small waves on flatter days.
