Joan started surfing at 7 years of age, at Ondres Beach in the South West of France. He started competing at 9 years of age with Hossegor Surf Club. His first major win was at the Capbreton Grommets Trophy in 1999 and from there he has gone from strength to strength.
Between his heavy competition schedule Joan tries to spend as much time as possible in France with his family and friends who are a huge support to him. At home he loves surfing with his father. After introducing Joan to the water aged three, he remains a constant source of inspiration to Joan.
